Google has expanded the capacity of its cloud region in Jakarta, Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, rival US cloud company Microsoft launched its Jakarta cloud region last month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Google Cloud this week announced it has expanded \u2013 and is continuing to expand \u2013 the computing capacity of its Jakarta cloud region to meet customer demand.<\/p>\n
Details on the scale of the expansion weren\u2019t shared.<\/p>\n
\u201cGoogle Cloud\u2019s Jakarta cloud region powers many essential services for Indonesian organizations, from Bio Farma\u2019s research and development of vaccines, to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education\u2019s delivery of teaching and learning experiences, to digital banking, e-commerce, food deliveries, remote work, and more,\u201d said Fanly Tanto, country director, Indonesia, Google Cloud.<\/p>\n
Google first announced plans to launch a region in Jakarta back in 2018<\/a>. The company launched its Jakarta cloud region in 2020<\/a>, making it the first US hyperscaler to launch a region in the Indonesian capital.<\/p>\n Other cloud companies operating, or planning to operate, in Indonesia include Huawei<\/a>, Google<\/a>, Alibaba<\/a>, Tencent<\/a>, and AWS<\/a>.<\/p>\n Microsoft’s first cloud region in Indonesia, called Indonesia Central, became generally available last month<\/a>. The launch was quietly announced via a post on the company\u2019s Indonesia page.<\/p>\n As is standard with most such launches, the new cloud region includes three availability zones. Construction on the facilities, located within the Greenland International Industrial Centre in Greater Jakarta, began in January 2022.<\/p>\n Microsoft announced plans<\/a> to develop an Indonesian cloud region in Jakarta in February 2021.<\/p>\n Last year, the company said it would invest $1.7bn<\/a> over the next four years<\/a> into cloud and AI<\/a> infrastructure in Indonesia.
