The outage led to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.datacenterdynamics.com\/en\/news\/south-koreas-government-to-grill-kakao-after-data-center-fire-cripples-key-services\/\">government investigation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.datacenterdynamics.com\/en\/news\/police-raid-sk-group-over-kakao-fire-outage-as-koreas-government-impose-safety-drills-on-data-centers\/\">police raids<\/a>, and Kakao was required to implement an emergency response system and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.datacenterdynamics.com\/en\/news\/kakao-commences-compensation-to-businesses-and-kakaotalk-users-for-data-center-fire\/\">compensate<\/a> businesses and users that were impacted by the fire.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"1s621\">The new data center is expected to be complete by 2028. No further details about the facility have been disclosed; however, according to comments reported by local news outlets, Kakao infrastructure technology performance leader, Koh Woo-chan, said: \u201cIn order to utilize the servers needed for AI and data analysis in the future, we will inevitably use a lot of energy. We are preparing the next-generation data center with a capacity of around 80MW, which is twice the current 40MW.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"dah1u\">In June 2024, Kakao <a href=\"https:\/\/www.datacenterdynamics.com\/en\/news\/south-koreas-kakao-launches-data-center-in-ansan\/\">launched a data center in Ansan<\/a>, also in Gyeonggi. That site is the company&#8217;s first in-house data center and is capable of housing 120,000 servers.
