The company will also help countries\u00a0customize OpenAI\u2019s products for specific languages and local needs, part of an effort toward what\u00a0CEO Sam Altman\u00a0has called\u00a0\u201ccommercial diplomacy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\"><span class=\"ContentText ContentText_variant_bodyNormal\" data-testid=\"content-text\">The funding for the partnerships\u00a0will come from OpenAI, as well as the governments in each country, the company said. The goal is for the company to pursue\u00a010 international projects\u00a0to start, but it declined to name where they\u2019ll be located. The company says it will seek to work with states that use OpenAI\u2019s technology in democratically friendly ways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\"><span class=\"ContentText ContentText_variant_bodyNormal\" data-testid=\"content-text\">The project, called OpenAI for Countries, came into focus after the Paris AI Action Summit, said Chris Lehane, the company\u2019s vice president of global policy. At that conference, multiple international leaders asked OpenAI representatives\u00a0about how they could create their own version of the OpenAI-led Stargate project, which <\/span><span class=\"ContentText ContentText_variant_bodyNormal\" data-testid=\"content-text\"><a class=\"ContentText-BodyTextChunk ContentText-BodyTextChunk_link\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.datacenterknowledge.com\/ai-data-centers\/opening-the-stargate-tech-giants-to-invest-500b-in-ai-data-center-infrastructure\">aims\u00a0to invest $500 billion in AI infrastructure<\/a><\/span><span class=\"ContentText ContentText_variant_bodyNormal\" data-testid=\"content-text\"> in the US.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-component=\"related-article\" class=\"RelatedArticle\"><span data-testid=\"related-article-title\" class=\"RelatedArticle-Title\">Related:<\/span><a class=\"RelatedArticle-RelatedContent\" href=\"https:\/\/www.datacenterknowledge.com\/energy-power-supply\/beyond-megawatts-rethinking-how-we-measure-data-center-capacity\" target=\"_self\" data-discover=\"true\">Beyond Megawatts: Rethinking How We Measure Data Center Capacity<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\"><span class=\"ContentText ContentText_variant_bodyNormal\" data-testid=\"content-text\">\u201cWe\u2019ve heard from many countries asking for help in building out similar AI infrastructure \u2013 that they want their own Stargates and similar projects,\u201d OpenAI said in a blog post. \u201cIt\u2019s clear to everyone now that this kind of infrastructure is going to be the backbone of future economic growth and national development.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\"><span class=\"ContentText ContentText_variant_bodyNormal\" data-testid=\"content-text\">The OpenAI for Countries initiative will be separate from the Stargate Project \u2013\u00a0the\u00a0joint venture\u00a0spearheaded by OpenAI, SoftBank Group Corporation, Oracle, and other partners. Still, the efforts are closely related, and OpenAI considers the effort part of its global Stargate-branded push to build out AI infrastructure around the\u00a0world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\"><span class=\"ContentText ContentText_variant_bodyNormal\" data-testid=\"content-text\">OpenAI is pitching the project as a way for the US to lead other allied countries to take advantage of AI, an effort it says is increasingly important\u00a0in light of technological competition with China. In a\u00a0recent set of recommendations to the US Office of Science and Technology on export controls, OpenAI defined the market of democratically aligned\u00a0countries as \u201cthe entire world\u201d less China and its \u201cfew allies.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\"><span class=\"ContentText ContentText_variant_bodyNormal\" data-testid=\"content-text\">The contours of OpenAI\u2019s work will vary by country, Lehane said.
