A broader and more distributed set of trusted vulnerability databases will help ensure transparency and accessibility for all stakeholders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The launch of the EUVD comes just weeks after disruption caused by the prospect of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/security\/mitre-lessons-learned-security-vulnerability\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/security\/mitre-lessons-learned-security-vulnerability\">the MITRE CVE database closing down<\/a>. In late April, there were concerns that the long-standing vulnerability database might cease operations after funding for the scheme dried up.<\/p>\n<p>While <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/security\/confusion-and-frustration-mitre-cve-oversight-ends-federal-contract-expiry\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/security\/confusion-and-frustration-mitre-cve-oversight-ends-federal-contract-expiry\">CISA swooped in with an eleventh hour reprieve for the database<\/a>, the debacle nonetheless raised questions about organizations relying on a single information source.<\/p>\n<p>Dray Agha, senior manager of security operations at Huntress, said that relying solely on a US-funded CVE system \u201cdisrupted the global ecosystem\u201d and could be a learning curve for the international cyber community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing is stopping this from happening again for CVE or other US-funded programs as funding or governance issues arise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlternatives like the EUVD offer much-needed backup and continuity, as well as an opportunity to geopolitically reframe this system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Agha added that an EU-led database will prove beneficial for enterprises as it can prioritize vulnerabilities relevant to European digital infrastructure, regulation, and languages, enhancing regional threat intelligence\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-the-euvd-will-work-3\">How the EUVD will work<\/h2>\n<p>Threat information hosted by the database will be displayed through a series of dashboards, according to ENISA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe EUVD offers three dashboard views: for critical vulnerabilities, for exploited ones, and for EU coordinated ones,\u201d the agency explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe EU Coordinated Vulnerabilities lists the vulnerabilities coordinated by European CSIRTs and includes the members of the\u202fEU CSIRTs network.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vulnerability information will come from open source databases, with additional information added through advisories and alerts issued by CSIRTs.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, mitigation and patching guidelines published by vendors will also be available, alongside exploited vulnerability marks.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"article-body__section\" id=\"section-more-from-itpro\"><span>MORE FROM ITPRO<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cybersecurity experts have hailed the launch of the EU\u2019s new vulnerability database as a positive step toward enhancing regional security.
