Now a new leak suggests those questions could be answered using next-gen silicon battery technology.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report from <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-05-15\/iphone-supplier-tdk-readies-batteries-geared-for-thin-ai-gadgets\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-05-15\/iphone-supplier-tdk-readies-batteries-geared-for-thin-ai-gadgets\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\">Bloomberg<\/a>, battery maker TDK is ahead of schedule with a significant upgrade, where silicon is used for the battery anode rather than the conventional graphite. This means 15% more energy can be packed into the same space.<\/p>\n<aside data-block-type=\"embed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\" class=\"hawk-base\"\/>\n<p>Shipping for these batteries will begin by the end of June, which may just give <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/tag\/apple\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/tag\/apple\">Apple<\/a> enough time to incorporate the batteries into its iPhone 17 series \u2013 including the iPhone 17 Air, which will have less space for a battery than the other models in the range.<\/p>\n<aside data-component-name=\"Recirculation:ArticleRiver\" data-nosnippet=\"\">\n<span class=\"bg-secondary-500 text-white text-lg font-bold uppercase py-1 px-2 leading-[1.625rem] sm:leading-[6px] sm:text-sm\"><br \/>\nYou may like<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Now we&#8217;re being pretty speculative about joining up these particular dots, but we know that TDK supplies both Apple and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/tag\/samsung\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/tag\/samsung\">Samsung<\/a>. That&#8217;s some way short of the 3,651 mAh battery you&#8217;ll find in the current iPhone 16 model, for example.<\/p>\n<p>And previous rumors about the iPhone 17 Air battery life have contradicted each other. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/phones\/iphone\/huge-iphone-17-air-news-teased-in-new-report-3-things-you-need-to-know\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/phones\/iphone\/huge-iphone-17-air-news-teased-in-new-report-3-things-you-need-to-know\">One recent report<\/a> suggested that all-day battery life isn&#8217;t guaranteed for the new phone, and that Apple might offer a battery case accessory for it.<\/p>\n<p>However, back in March, a well-placed source said that battery life would be <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/phones\/iphone\/the-iphone-17-air-could-have-an-affordable-price-and-better-battery-life-than-you-might-have-expected\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/phones\/iphone\/the-iphone-17-air-could-have-an-affordable-price-and-better-battery-life-than-you-might-have-expected\">comparable to current iPhone 16 models<\/a>.
