Fire breaks out at Oregon data center leased by Elon Musk’s X

As of May 23, 2025, there have been no reports of a fire at an Oregon data center leased by Elon Musk’s company, X (formerly Twitter). However, X has been involved in several significant data center activities in Oregon in recent years.

In December 2023, X Corp. sought a $10 million tax break over ten years to fund a $700 million investment in artificial intelligence systems at an existing data center in Atlanta, Georgia. During this period, X also considered Portland, Oregon, as a potential location for this investment. The company emphasized the importance of cost-effective operations and the need for low-cost markets to support its AI initiatives. (bizjournals.com)

Earlier, in June 2023, Elon Musk’s Tesla signed a lease on the NTT-owned data center previously occupied by X in Sacramento, California. This move was part of X’s broader strategy to optimize its data center operations and reduce costs. (datacenterdynamics.com)

Additionally, in January 2024, X was granted a $10 million tax break for AI hardware in Georgia. The company had threatened to focus AI deployment in Portland if not given the incentive, even though most of it was already deployed in Atlanta. (sdxcentral.com)

While X has been active in the Pacific Northwest, particularly in Portland, Oregon, there have been no reports of a fire at any of its data centers in the region.
