Gigabyte Unveils Updated Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE Motherboard, CAMM2 Support & Enhanced Performance With “Ultra Turbo” Mode

Gigabyte has unveiled its updated Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE CAMM2 motherboard, which supports Ultra Turbo Mode and includes several optimizations to tune performance.

Gigabyte Updates Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE Motherboard With CAMM2 Support, While Existing Tachyon Breaks Memory OC World Record

Gigabyte’s second iteration of the Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE is here, and this time, it is supporting the latest CAMM2 DDR5 memory modules. These new memory modules offer better signaling and much faster frequencies, while the latest BIOS-side innovations drive up to 14% performance while using the same memory kit.

At first glance, the Gigabyte Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE CAMM2 motherboard looks and feels very similar to the previous Z890 Tachyon offering, with a 90-degree rotated socket and memory modules featured on the top of the board instead of the sides.

While the previous iteration featured UDIMM slots, the new variant comes with a single CAMM2 connector to support the next-generation memory standard. The motherboard also gets an exclusive onboard overclocking kit that can be used for extreme overclocking, and the most interesting part is that the CAMM2 slot features a toolless heatsink, offering better thermal capabilities than UDIMMs.

This new design goes hand in hand with the “Ultra Turbo” mode technology, which offers a powerful performance enhancement for those running Intel Core Ultra 200S CPUs. With this BIOS-sided feature, users can gain up to 38% more performance thanks to the help of a fine-tuned local AI model that analyzes CPU & DRAM data.

Users can expect:

  • CPU Boost: Up to 38% performance boost over factory settings
  • Memory Boost: Brings performance enhancements for ultimate compute power
  • Performance Boost: Brings comprehensive optimizations across all applications

Compared to Intel’s own 200S Boost enhancement feature, the Gigabyte Ultra Turbo Mode provides an 8% bump using 8000 MT/s memory and a 10% bump with 8800 MT/s memory.

Regarding memory overclocking, the original Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE motherboard has now set a new world record of DDR5-12752. This record was achieved by Gigabyte’s in-house overclocker, HiCookie, and leveraged the D5 Bionic Corsa tech. The memory modules used were from V-Color (Manta Xfinity RGB CUDIMM).
