The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 was rumored to witness an announcement in September, followed by a wave of flagships sporting Qualcomm’s flagship SoC the next month. During this week and the last, Xiaomi’s XRING 01 has been gaining a ton of eyeballs, and with the latest teaser, we learn that the chipset will not just be unveiled on May 22, but it will also leverage TSMC’s second-generation 3nm technology. This will be the first time that any Chinese firm will compete head-on with Qualcomm in this area, and the San Diego chipset manufacturer probably wants to take some of that spotlight away by announcing the Snapdragon Summit, which will be held from September 23.
The upcoming Snapdragon Summit will take place nearly an entire month earlier to bring the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 into the fold quickly
Just like on previous occasions, the Snapdragon Summit 2025 will be held in Maui, Hawaii, but this time, Qualcomm wants to be a little faster in unveiling the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. Instead of sticking with October like it did with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the event will start on September 23, indicating that the company wants to get as much attention as possible to lure potential customers, not that it had trouble doing so in the first place. However, an announcement happening a whole month earlier can change the opinion of various partners looking to prioritize MediaTek’s Dimesity 9500.
There might be a preview of the Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2, so we will keep our fingers crossed for those details. As for the star of the show, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is expected to be a notable upgrade over its immediate predecessor. There have been various reports mentioning that while the SoC will stick with the same ‘2 + 6’ cluster as the Snapdragon 8 Elite, its alleged AnTuTu score is 40.7 percent higher than the latter. This significant difference could be thanks to the new Adreno 840 GPU, paired with an upgraded NPU, and of course, the next-generation Pegasus cores that were said to be tested at a 5.00GHz clock speed.
There is no way to tell if the aforementioned specifications or claims are true except to wait for the official announcement during the Snapdragon Summit. For now, we recommend readers treat all of this information with a pinch of salt, and we will return with more updates.
